EVGA demonstrates 4-way GTX 480 SLI

Last year, EVGA had released 4-way SLI X58 Classified motherboards andspecial Classified GTX 285 cards to make 4-way SLI on GTX 285 a reality.Unlike the GTX 285, however, the GTX 480 does not require specialedition Classified cards. The reference GTX 480 is compatible with the4-way SLI Classified X58 motherboards.

If the drivers are up to task, the GTX 480 4-way SLI platform is no doubt the ultimate gaming solution. One has to be concerned about what it would take to drive four monster GTX 480 cards.

We are talking about 1500W PSUs here, at least. The configuration means three of the four GTX 480's intake fans are mostly blocked out. This kind of an arrangement for a GPU that ends up near 100C even in single configuration has to be worrying. Let us not even mention the sound...

But of course, if you are crazy enough to buy this exotic platform, these little issues don't really matter, do they?

ATI Radeon HD 5800 series cards are compatible with 4-way Crossfire-X motherboards. However, 4-card configurations, as we have seen before, are heavily dependent on drivers. Of course, two Radeon HD 5970s in Crossfire can lead to similar performance without the need for a 4-way motherboard.
